2020 Meeting Information
The 2020 meeting will be held on October 22-24, 2020. The meeting will be hosted by Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at the Shreveport Downtown Convention Center and Dr. Andrew Yurochko will be organizing the meeting. The tentative schedule includes a mixer on Thursday night, Friday sessions starting in the morning and running all day, followed by dinner and fun at the Red River Brewery, and then the typical Saturday meeting ending afternoon.
2019 Meeting Information
The American Society for Microbiology South Central Branch Annual Meeting will be held on November 1-2, 2019. This year’s meeting will be held at the University of Mississippi located in Oxford, Miss and hosted by the University of Mississippi’s Biology Department.
The annual ASM-SCB meeting attracts 180- 200 faculty, postdocs, and students from Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana. The meeting provides an opportunity for regional networking and collaboration. A full program of events is planned including scientific sessions, keynote speaker presentation, student awards competition, poster session, education session, Friday evening reception, and business meeting.
Dr. Joel Kostka, Georgia Tech University, a microbial ecologist, will serve as the keynote speaker.
Oral Presentation Information– Oral presentations will be 12 minutes with 2 minutes reserved for questions. The session chairs will adhere strictly to this time frame in order to maintain the schedule. Oral presenters should provide their PowerPoint slides to the session chair at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the session. You may NOT use your own laptop computer. You should bring your PowerPoint presentation on a flash drive.
Poster Presentation Information- Posters must be no larger than 46″ by 46″. Presenters will be able to set-up their posters upon registration or at 2:30 pm during the Friday break session. The poster session/reception will be Friday from 5:20 until 7:20 pm. Students should stand by the poster during this time and be available to discuss their research with the judges. Please plan to leave your poster up overnight so that attendees can freely view posters on Saturday morning until the posters need to be taken down by 10:30 am to make room for setting up for the business meeting.
Hotel Accommodations- Rooms are still available at the host hotel, the Inn at Ole Miss (offers free parking and breakfast), and at the nearby Courtyard Marriott. You are encouraged to reserve a room as soon as possible.
Parking- Free parking is available for guests staying at the Inn at Ole Miss. Upon registration you will receive a parking pass for the length of your stay.
For those lodging and parking at the Courtyard Marriott, the Inn at Ole Miss is a short walk away. The Marriott also offers a shuttle service during selected hours.
If you are not staying at the Inn at Ole Miss, on Friday Nov. 1, you will need obtain a parking pass from the Visitor’s Hut located on University Avenue next to the Grove as you enter campus. The cost of each visitor’s pass is $3.00 per vehicle. The pass will allow you to park on campus in all legal spaces. Non-legal spaces are those that are metered, reserved or handicapped, if you do not have the proper credentials.
It is also possible to obtain parking passes ahead of your arrival by on-line access at http://olemiss.edu/parking/visitors . A limited number of parking passes will be available at the registration desk, but the pass must be placed in your vehicle immediately.
Parking passes are not needed for Saturday, November 2nd. You may park near the Inn in any legal space.
Registration– If you are already registered you will pick up your program and other materials at the registration table from 10 am until 2 pm on Friday, Nov. 1, at the Inn at Ole Miss. On-site registration is also available on Friday, Nov. 1, or on Saturday, Nov. 2. It is not too late to register on-line using the form below. Registration is $55 for students and $100 for non-students.

Ole Miss Campus Walking Tours– Guided walking tours of the historic Ole Miss campus are available from 10 am until 12:30 pm Friday, Nov. 1. Meet at the registration table. However, you are invited to explore the campus anytime during your visit.
Campus Map and Directions– It will be easiest to use an interactive campus map available at http://map.olemiss.edu. Look under Buildings/Residential/Inn at Ole Miss.
As you come into Oxford on Highway 6, you will take the Old Taylor Road exit and proceed toward campus. You will pass through round-abouts and the baseball stadium and come to a stop on University Avenue. Take a left toward campus.
On entering campus on University Ave., you will come to a stop sign. Take a right on Grove Loop, continue on and take a right onto Alumni Drive and proceed to the Inn at Ole Miss. If you need to obtain a parking pass continue straight on University Avenue to the Visitor’s Hut.
